Let’s talk about the romantic honeymoon destinations shall we, but first a brief history lesson.  This is a tradition dating as far back as the 5th Century.  The word “honeymoon” comes from the act of newlywed couples drinking alcoholic honey, supposedly an aphrodisiac, on the night of the first moon cycle of the marriage – very romantic.  Although the tradition has strayed a bit from chugging honey in the moonlight with your sweetie, to destination vacations, I think we can all agree that “getting lucky” still plays a prominent role during the honeymoon.  With so many romantic honeymoon destinations as options these days how does a couple decide where to go?!  Don’t worry, A Beautiful Theme got you, below is a curated list of romantic hotspots, perfect for honeymoons, that wouldn’t even require a honey aphrodisiac to get you and your boo in the mood.

  1. Bali, Indonesia

  • Bali has all the Disney’s “Planet Earth” vibes because it is so breathtaking, earning the nickname Land of the Gods. With that kind of energy, you could probably name your first-born Thor. According to  airbnb – Tanah Lot Kecak Fire Dance is an unforgettable experience, along with the opportunity to visit the Sacred Monkey Forrest Sanctuary, and Bali’s Gate of Heaven.

  1. Prague, Czech Republic

  • Charming is an understatement and insulting to how rich this city is with culture and history. River Vltava not only offers divine nightly boat tours it also divides the city of Prague into two, New Town and Old Town.  Old Town is the home of their original marketplace, dating as far back as the 12th  Imagine, you, and your lover strolling the market, thick in the middle of romantic architecture, indulging in the delicatessens, befriending locals… Excuse me while I come back down from the clouds! Needless to say, the city is oozing with romance.

  1. Tulum, Mexico

  • Do you want that sexy resort beach life, or do you want to play Tarzan and Jane in the jungle? Can’t decide? Luckily both of those options are available in Tulum, Mexico!  For all my Tarzans and Janes out there, Airbnb offers jungle huts for as low as $38 a night, honeymoon on a budget y’all! When exploring Tulum, Cenotes are all over Mexico.  If you have not been to one, love the water, and you do not get claustrophobic easily this would be a fun adventure for newlyweds.  For my claustrophobic friends exploring the Ruins in the wide-open spaces might sound like a breath of fresh air!

  1. Hawaii

  • When I think of romantic vacations Hawaii is classic, the “J Crew” of honeymoons if you will, those beautiful islands are never going out of style. When indulging in island life it’s a requirement to explore the scenery, nap on the beach, and eat.   Diamond Head, a heavenly volcanic tuff located on O’ahu provides spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Honolulu.  Once you and hiking bae are ready for that nap there is no better place than the North Shore of O’ahu at Sunset Beach.  And, yes, you best believe it’s named Sunset Beach for a reason!  After all those activities, you’re famished, but not just any place will do, this is your honeymoon after all.  Behold, 53 By The Sea, give their Instagram (@53bythesea_hawaii) a peek and you can thank me later.

  1. Nice, France

  • This romantic honeymoon destination is for the art aficionados and lushes. Museums on museums, for starters, Musee Matisse. Explore one of the largest collections in the world from Henri Matisse’s career.  Enjoy his work from the beginning while enjoying your own (marriage) beginning.  Cleanse your pallet with some wine, and some more wine.  The wine tastings offered in Nice can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, yes 8 FULL HOURS.  I was also startled with this information.  To cure your hangover from the wine tour why not take a rest on the Blue Beach, which is private!  Art, wine, and beaches, say no more mon cheri!
