Congratulations you’re getting married to the love of your life! You definitely want to be surrounded by the ones you love the most so it only makes sense to include your fur-baby! I’m a huge animal lover and my pets are definitely apart of my family! I couldn’t imagine not being able to hug them on my big day! However, there’s a few things to consider when deciding on inviting your pet to your wedding! Its important you make the right decision for the both of you!

Does your venue allow pets ?

Most venues don’t have a really strict pet policy especially for weddings but there are a few that will veto your fur-baby being at your wedding. If you plan on including your pet in your wedding make sure to ask the venue before booking.

Does Your pet like others?

Take a look at how your pets behavior when you have parties or large crowds. Do they get really anxious and try run off and hide? Or are they at all aggressive toward others? Behavior like this is totally normal and nothing to be ashamed of. Occasionally, pets can just get a little angry at someone and this can be heightened when food is present.

Easy enough to know when your pet is happy or anxious with crowds, as they will likely be barking or try to hide. Should this be the case your pet may not have the best experience around your wedding crowd.

Children

Will you be including children at your wedding? Having your pet at your wedding can be an absolute ball for the kids! Kids love to play with pets and in turn your pet will enjoy the extra attention from the children. Just be sure your pet also is great with kids or will be supervised to prevent any accidents occurring.

Supervision

Including your pet at your wedding is such a joy but you have to think about who will watch them. Poo-bags don’t always go with your wedding dress so it would be a good idea to ask someone to assist your pet during that time. It would also be a good idea to ask someone to keep your pet on a leash with them  if your pet isn’t trained to not run off in an open area. Selecting a set person to keep them company while you do your thing would keep them comfortable and happy.

Creating a safe space

Your pet will likely not be there through the whole day maybe, you’ll just include them for the ceremony as a ring bearer/ flower girl. Or Maybe you have your pet skip the ceremony and just party with you all at the reception. Establish a safe space for them to nap, play and eat when they won’t be with you or at the wedding events.

Attire

You didn’t think that I would complete a blog without mentioning your pet’s attire did you! Will you be having your pet wear a tie or maybe a dress? How about a flower crown or collar? We love to create doggy flower crowns and collars! I think they look amazing and add that extra oomph that you’re looking for when you think of a wedding and your fur baby! Along with the attire make sure to get your fur baby a fresh grooming or bath to be sure everyone looks their best!

I love my fur babies and I seriously love including them in EVERYTHING I do! I know some of you may be like me, and I wanted you all to have the info to make a good decision on if you should have your fur baby with you on your big Day! *Just a note if you do decide to include your baby be sure to remember they aren’t privy on wedding manners, so don’t be surprised or angry should you hear a bark or two.  Barking is their way of communicating to you!
